              Summer Travel Tips
Traveling with an individual with autism can be challenging.  Here are some ideas to make it easier.
*Plan in advance-call ahead to see if special accommodations are available.
*Be realistic is selecting environments the individual can handle.
*Prepare the individual before and during the trip as to what to expect.
*Adhere as closely as possible to the individual's normal routine.
*MP3 players with headphones can soothe individuals who are disturbed by noises.
*Don't hesitate to explain the individual's situation to others you may encounter, including flight attendants, hotel staff, employees at the amusements you visit, and other vacationers.

Dear Friends,
Well, it has been an AMAZING year.  Last year, in April, a few friends got together and put on a walk to raise awareness (and money!) for autism.  I think most of us were overwhelmed with the interest in this disorder.

Because of that interest, Autism Hearts was born.  We began shortly after that walk, with coming up with a name, logo, etc. and then beginning the tedious process of applying for the 501c3 status that makes us a non-profit and gives us credibility!

It took many months and on June 25th, 2009 we received word that we were OFFICIAL.  It was soooo exciting, almost like giving birth!  All of us involved worked long and hard to bring it to this point.  And now comes the best part.....being able to give the money we've raised back to our greater community.

On behalf of Autism Hearts, I want to thank everyone for your support and encouragement.  I know we couldn't have done it without you!
Sandy

We decided when we formed this group that we wanted to something about educating the people of our community about autism.  With that in mind, we chose to dedicate 20% of our profits toward that goal.  Along with placing some books in the library, we intend to hold some public seminars,to provide insight into living with autism.

Playing games at the walk!
